Neil's Building DVD

Postby Scott Marshall » Mon Jan 24, 2011 9:49 pm

I bought Neil's new construction DVD last week. I love guitar back gurdies and wondered how they were made/ what was inside them, so sent off for the DVD more out of academic curiosity than a real desire to build one. I have to say I was fascinated, I think it's the best bit of telly I have watched for ages. It is wonderful to see the instrument take shape through all the processes, and so interesting to see and hear how Neil has found clever ways to make the jobs easier or better. It's amazing to see how much work goes into building. Just plain brilliant!

Having watched Neil replace a strengthener inside my gurdy through the very narrow soundhole last week, I need no convincing of his 'tricks of the trade'. I myself have no desire to ever build one, as my woodwork skills are next to none, but I also have a copy of this DVD and find it absolutely rivetting.
