Hello from Ruthie

Postby ruthbramley » Fri Apr 10, 2009 6:22 pm

I suppose I should have done this before posting in other bits of the forum, but have only just got around to it...

I live near Ely in Cambridgeshire and have been playing gurdy since 2001, having played guitar and banjo for more years than I care to admit (and bodhrán more recently). I've played with a number of bands over the years including a ceilidh band, as half of a duo called Big Apple Pie (children's stuff and also a mix of folk music) and more recently Nuada, with whom I played at last year's Gurdy Festival in Lancaster and at the Blowout in 2006. I have a Gotschy Phoenix (called Helga) and was very lucky to have had lessons with Mike Gilpin, who lives quite near here. At the moment I am not playing much as life is somewhat busy with work and otherwise. I am musical director for a major Shakespeare production in June/July so will be playing gurdy for that...
Forthcoming gigs:
14 Oct - Steve Tilston, Ely Folk Club
18 Nov - James Hickman and Dan Cassidy, Ely Folk Club
5 Dec - ColvinQuarmby, Arkenstall Village Centre, Haddenham, Cambs
9 Dec - Dave Swarbrick, Ely Folk Club
