Wannabe gurdyist, SW London

Postby dulcimerkate » Mon Jul 19, 2010 9:05 pm

Hello!

I'm a violinist and hammered dulcimerist, and have loved the sound of the hurdy gurdy (and old French dance music in particular) for many years. Having played in bands and musical projects of various kinds over the years I'm now in the process of starting my own band and would really like to include a gurdy (played by someone else initially, but the ultimate goal is to acquire one of my own!)

First of all however I think I need to find out a bit more about an instrument I don't really know, so I thought this forum would be a good place to start!

Ah, a hammered dulcimer player! Are you a member of http://www.everythingdulcimer.com? That's a brilliant forum for dulcimer players - I play and build mountain dulcimers and am quite active there.

Anything you want to know about gurdies, just ask here and someone will provide a helpful answer!

Thanks,
Barnaby
